since feeling is first.

This poem basically embodies my perspective of what love is, not what I think it is, but how it actually resides in me. It's e e cummings and it's beautiful. I think the most beautiful thing about it is that it attempts to explain a love that it describes as indescribable. In the end, I do believe that it fails to capture love. But what it does do is capture that frustration of words, that confusion of verbs and nouns and adjectives, that perfect inexpressibility of actions. Also, the self-conscious use of punctuation- and syntax-related diction further ironizes this gap between the body and mind. For what the mind does not have the means to express, the body must punctuate. Sadly, sometimes, even to a writer, words are not enough.

since feeling is first
who pays any attention
to the syntax of things
will never wholly kiss you;
wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world

my blood approves,
and kisses are a better fate
than wisdom
lady i swear by all flowers. Don't cry
—the best gesture of my brain is less than
your eyelids' flutter which says

we are for each other: then
laugh, leaning back in my arms
for life's not a paragraph

And death i think is no parenthesis

i like this poem too and most of ee cummings poems about love and such. heh, so i dono if you understood the person above but they said, more or less, that they can't fully understand the poem it but that they give you a 10 for your poetic spirit and a 10 for you because you're very beautiful :)
